Furniture Sources

I was very happy to find the newly created MidCity Design District webpage, including some of my FAVORITE design stores in DC.

Most of the stores that I enjoy are already listed on this blog in the Favorites section but let me focus on a few here for fun.

My all time favorite – partly because it is one of the oldest on the corridor and partly because they have been INCREDIBLY supportive for yours truly is Reincarnations Furniture.   Frank and Jonathon have been a great support  to ra redoes rooms, referring us to TV production company looking for designers as well as to great clients.  In addition, most every picture of me IN a decorated room is actually in the Reincarnations showroom.

Having fun at Reincarnations!

They provide fabulous customer service and have wonderful sidewalk sale at least twice a year too. If you are fortunate to be around when they do the sale, it is an event NOT to be missed. and if you are 30 minutes late to it, you will miss it.

Tied for second favorites are the RCKNDY and Mitchell Gold and Bob Williams stores.  RCKNDY is an independent local  furniture store, like Reincarnations, and is run by a great manager/owner David. He specializes in modern furniture and accessories for one-bedroom apartments and condos in the city.  He has also referred fantastic clients my way and hosted a design seminar, featuring yours truly, in the store too!

Mitchell Gold and Bob Williams has successfully coupled comfortable and tailored furniture with an easy going vibe. The staff there is comfortable too! I was fortunate to meet Bev and Page after opening my business years ago. They along with manager Ryan, and staff members, always make sure I am taken care of at MG+BW.  Plus it is cool to meet Mitchell or Bob themselves when they visit the store during events. (and they follow me on twitter – cool-o!)

I have most recently met staff at Vastu and Millennium Decorative Arts – and both seem like great places to shop as well. Hope to get back there and work with folks more closely in the near future!

Needless to say, I am ecstatic that more retailers are finding their way to the new and EMERGING MidCity Design District, bringing  customers and complementary businesses along the way.  Welcome Well Built and Room and Board to the MidCity Design District – and looking forward to meeting and working with you there as well!!

House on Georgetown tour 2010

House on Georgetown tour 2010

Let’s face it – we have all been curious about homes in Georgetown. How do people live in the historic homes? Has each owner modified the interior or is the house full of antiques? How do people live in their space today, that was built for yesterday? Well, the annual Georgetown House Tour 2010 is scheduled for Saturday, April 24 from 11 am – 5 pm so you can see for yourself. This self-guided tour will allow you to visit these charming homes at your own pace. You can review and return to the homes in the allotted time but NO picture taking inside the homes!

Be sure to check the website for information about tickets, shoes, and other FAQs compiled by the Tour committee. Tickets once ordered, can be picked up on the lawn at St Johns Church the afternoon of the tour.

I’ve included a few exterior photos of the some of homes that will be featured on the tour, as addresses won’t be revealed until the week before the event. The VERY popular Parish Tea will be held at the church in the afternoon, where you can enjoy homemade sandwiches and sweets and rest for a spell.

Oh - is that a pool spotted in the back?

Is that a pool in the back?

Please join in the annual tour tradition and view a few charming homes in Georgetown! I hope to see you there!

You have had it with the paper shades…but not really feeling the wood or faux wooden blinds for your condo.   You have been searching all over for a modern alternative but unsure what to select.  Well…

Your search is over!! We have just joined forces with DC’s Ace hardware stores, in assisting them to offer Hunter Douglas (R) products to the DC community.  There are plenty of modern and contemporary shades and blinds options – for a reasonable cost.  And we can install them too!  Check out a few options below!

Easy breezy Designer Screen shades, with header

Easy breezy Designer Roller shades, with silver head rail

The shades shown to the right provide a great option for condo owners to help reduce the impact of the sun’s strong UV rays, yet keep the light feel in a room. Yes, you can purchase these shades with the silver headrail and have them installed either with corded loop or even motorized, on a remote control for less fuss! Lots of colors are available to complement your decor.

Matchstick blinds work well with natural textures like exposed brick

Woven woods work well with textures like exposed brick

The common name for the blinds shown here are ‘matchstick blinds’. We know them as Woven Woods and are available in natural woods like bamboo, reeds, or grasses. These can even be lined to help darken rooms, if that is your desire. These shades work nicely in rooms with exposed brick or stone and complement hardwood floors nicely too!

Check these shades out in person at Tenleytown’s Ace hardware or 5th Street Ace or else submit a request for a designer consultation for your condo!

Remember the most expensive shade is the one you have to replace. Get it done right the first time!
